Skylark Precise Positioning Service Leverages AWS Architecture for ISO 26262 Certification

ISO certified on AWS

Swift leverages AWS to run its ISO 26262 certified Skylark Precise Positioning Service, establishing best practices for implementing safety-critical workloads in the cloud.

The automotive industry follows strict standards to ensure road vehicles meet certain safety and reliability requirements. As vehicles become more sophisticated, software systems take on an increasingly important role, enabling features such as ADAS, autonomy, and vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication. Today, systems are beginning to emerge that rely on cloud-based services to deliver safety-critical functionality. However, many of the standards established for road vehicles were not designed with the cloud in mind, and certifying cloud-based solutions is a new battleground.

ISO 26262 is a globally recognized automotive functional safety standard that sets requirements for electrical and electronic components within road vehicles. It is designed to ensure vehicles function safely even when systems malfunction, and defines procedures for identifying hazards and eliminating risks during the development process. Swift’s Skylark Precise Positioning Service is the first cloud-based real-time service to be certified compliant with the standard.

Swift hosts Skylark on AWS, and collaborated closely with AWS throughout the ISO 26262 certification process. To learn more about the collaboration and how Swift leveraged AWS to achieve ISO 26262 certification, read the joint blog post.
