Swift Navigation’s Starling Positioning Engine is a software component which improves the accuracy, availability and safety of GNSS-based PVAT (position, velocity, attitude, and time) in automotive applications. It does this by combining raw measurements from a GNSS receiver with vehicle sensor data and GNSS Corrections from the Skylark Precise Positioning Service.

The NVIDIA DriveWorks Sensor Abstraction Layer (SAL) provides a unified interface to vehicle sensors, including generic interfaces for GNSS and IMU sensors via the GNSS Sensor Plugin and IMU Sensor Plugin interfaces respectively.  The NVIDIA DriveWorks is part of the NVIDIA DriveOS™ Linux SDK.

To bridge these systems, Swift Navigation has developed a proof-of-concept SAL plugin, libstarling_plugin. This plugin embeds the Starling Positioning Engine, making Starling’s enhanced GNSS and IMU outputs directly available to any DriveWorks application via the standard GNSS and IMU plugin interfaces.
