What is Fixed RTK?
Fixed RTK (Real-Time Kinematic) is a high-precision GNSS positioning mode that achieves centimeter-level accuracy by resolving carrier phase ambiguities as integers. In this mode, a GNSS receiver (or rover) receives correction data from a base station at a known location. The system uses complex algorithms to determine the exact number of whole radio wavelengths between satellites and the base station antenna, a process called ambiguity resolution. When these ambiguities are resolved to integer values, the solution is considered “fixed,” providing the highest possible accuracy for applications such as surveying, autonomous vehicles, and precision agriculture. Achieving and maintaining a fixed RTK solution requires good satellite visibility, strong signal quality, and reliable communication with the correction source.
