What is ADAS?

ADAS stands for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems. These are electronic systems in vehicles that use a combination of sensors (such as cameras, radar, LiDAR, and GNSS) to assist drivers in driving and parking functions. ADAS features include lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, automated emergency braking, and parking assistance. The goal of ADAS is to enhance vehicle safety and improve the driving experience by reducing human error and providing real-time alerts or automated interventions.

As vehicles progress toward higher levels of autonomy (SAE Level 2+ and beyond), precise absolute positioning from GNSS becomes increasingly important to complement perception-based sensors, expand operational design domains, and enable features like lane-level navigation and V2X (vehicle-to-everything) communication. ADAS is a critical step on the path to fully autonomous vehicles, providing both immediate safety benefits and a scalable foundation for future innovations.
